If it is a choice between white and silver, I'd go for the white.

Congratulations on this beautiful finish, Hans!
I did follow the progress, but didn't reply. But now I'd like to say I'd prefer the white mat. This draws the attention to the egg imediately. The black mat is just as heavy as the egg and makes my eyes start searching around trying to find the most important part of the piece. I hope this still does make any sense.... Looking forward to pics of your next project! Ineke

yep Ineke this makes sense and you have the same idea about it as I have............black is nice but puts everything together and doesnot let pop-out the egg
itself..............

First of all, congratulations on such a gorgeous finish, Hans!
And comment about the mat: I think a lighter mat brings out all aspects of the design.

You could also consider a double layer with black as the bottom and white on top so you just have a thin border of black providing definition and a break
between the fabric and the white of the main mat but without the heaviness of black being the main colour. It is only how I feel but the white mat almost
blends into the fabric too much, although of course it depends on how it actually looks "live", monitors being notoriously inaccurate for colours!

I am very late to this but...congratulations on a stunning finish!!! Also, I like the mat on the right the best, the light one.
edited to add: I had something framed with a mat like you described in your last post, white and a very small black line set in about 1/4 inch from the inner edge of the mat. I don't have a picture of it online, but the effect was great. |

Hans, I've been admiring your work for some time now and have a question which refers back to your Thea Gouverneur St. Petersburg project. Did you do all of the black backstitching in the directions? If so, how long did that take? Sorry for regressing, but am very curious as I'm doing her London one now and it (all the backstitching) looks very daunting. Thanks! Nancy |

yes Nancy I did ALL backstitching that was on charts, but in st petersburg there was not so much backstitching and sometimes you hardly see it, it only adds
something........same for London, I looked at the charts and I think there are more colors backstitcing as black,,,,,,,,in st petersburg there is also no
black............but done right it only adds something and doesnot play the first violin........and I think the backstitching took me a few evenings
only.............
