Lets talk fabric... |

28 ct Silkweavers Lugana, in GOLDSPINNER for me. Ordered two different colors, a blue and the goldspinner for German Oststee and used the blue... so I have a
36 x 36 piece of goldspinner that I think will be a great desert type background. I think (hope) the piece couldn't possibly be too big for that size
fabric. How bout the rest of you, what is the plan?

I was thinking about a stone colour. Maybe something like Country Stitch Feijoa, although I have some Silkweaver Winter Breeze or Desert Sky in stash, which
might work.

Any of those color will probably look good. Salilouisa, I like the idea of Winter Break - the colors in the landscape scenes will really pop against a grey.
I'm not going to do a hand-dye this time. I was going to use a plain off-white, since I already have a good piece, but now I'm leaning towards a pale blue or grey. : ) Missie If you don't believe in dragons It is curiously true That the dragons you disparage Choose to not believe in you

I'm doing mine on the new Silkweaver's 28 ct. Lugana Peach Orchard Opalescent. I also thought about Desert Sky.

If didn't have the goldspinner, desert sky would be my choice.

It's going to depend on whether the piece I have is big enough. I can't remember what I originally bought it for. The Winter Breeze will definitely be
big enough because I originally bought it for Alpine but it was much more brown than I had wanted. I think it would still work well for this but there's
more contrast in the colours than Desert Sky. (Task for this weekend = find fabric stash)

The Desert Sky looks great for this design. Still trying to decide on mine, too.

I like Desert Sky with its subtle colors. I have two pieces of Desert Sky 40 count linen opal and both look darker than the picture - one looks a a full shade
darker than the picture. I find it hard to chose fabrics until I see the materials list, though, so I'm going to wait a bit.

Well, drat. I cannot for the life of me find my Desert Sky. I know I've got it somewhere but it looks like it's fallen victim to reorganisation. I have
found my Winter Breeze, which looks like it will work OK. And it's big enough, so I should be good and use that. I'll see though, when the rest of the
materials get announced.

Same here, Judy. We live in a SW style house even has a round, sunken "kieve" living room. This will have the space above the fireplace. I already
have Earthdancer, a couple of Pueblo pots stitched and a real sand painting.

Lana, I did earthdancer for my son years ago..love that one. I will put this one above our entertainment area in L.R. that is built- in style front and
center..the colors are perfect with all my other southwestern touches that we have here...a couple of smaller pot paintings we purchased and also little knick
knack type things that look just like the stuff in the Desert mandala..can you tell I am sooo excited....can't wait to see what the materials list will
be!!

In terms of fabric count, what does Martina usually recommend? I'm stitching Caribbean and I bought the kit from ECS so I have no idea as to the count...28
or 32
Any help would be great! Cheers |

It usually says 32 (or 16) but I personally find the beads lie better on a 28 ct.

Thanks Lana but...I still need a little help because I still don't know what count fabric I was given via ECS for the Caribbean project - it seems to work
fine for me as I don't seem to have any trouble with the beads thus far...do you know what kind of count they usually give out? I'm trying to avoid
calling them from France...
Thanks for any help! Cecilia ps you can tell I'm a rookie to this sort of thing

I just found the answer to my question - ECS sends out 32 Ct fabric in most of their kits.
Voila! Now, that I have this info, I'm really thinking about ordering Desert Sky (Thanks to Jeannette for the pics) - I'm just a little suprised at the price!! This is the first time that I've ever purchased hand-dyed fabric...how exciting. Cheers, Cecilia |

You are VERY welcome Cecilia!
For future assistance in determining 'what' count you have in your hands ... take a measuring tape and place directly on the fabric .. count the number of threads WITHIN one inch and that will tell you WHAT count you have ... try it ... |
