Posts: 4 05/27/08 02:52 PM	Tags : None I just recently decided to try my hand at Chatelaine designs and picked up Egyptian Garden and Taj Mahal to start and I'm in the process of purchasing the supplies. I made my shopping list from the material lists mentioned on this board since I don't have the patterns yet and unfortunately I hit a snag my OLN doesn't seem to have the Swaroski Rose AB bicone which I need for Taj but has Lt Rose AB and Rose (no AB). Does the AB really matter or can/should I replace the bicone with the regular rose. I'm trying to get the full Chatelaine experience so I don't want to fiddle too much with the supplies if they play a significate role in the design (if that makes any sense). So I would love any ones help and opinion on this. Cindy also sells a kit for each of them with the silks, speciality threads and beads. Posts: 776 05/27/08 08:22 PM	Hello Nicole, The AB means a double coating. Which gives it a different shimmer. If I was you I would or go with the same color without AB, or try to buy it online. There are several online shops that sell this color. If you however didn't purchase any beads yet, you might have a look at the bead packets from European X Stitch. When purchasing a bead kit from them you not only save yourself a lot of hassle in trying to get everything - you also save yourself ending up with too much beads/bicones. Normally you need to buy a minimum of every color, but Cindy calculates how much you need and that's what you get. I kit up everything else myself and save a bit money with that....but the bead kits are perfect. Gabi My Pictures

Posts: 90 05/27/08 09:08 PM	Actually, 'AB' means Aurora Borealis, which is a coating effect. It gives an appearance, on the surface of the crystal, similar to that of aurora borealis. It doesn't mean there is a double coating. 'AB 2X' is the notation that means the item has been treated with a double coating of the AB effect material. To see the difference, check out this page on the Gerri's Crystals site: Swarovski 4mm AB Bicones If you bring up pictures side-by-side of - say - Amethyst, you should be able to see the difference. Gerri's Crystals is a fantastic site for checking out the different options for the Swarovski Crystals. Another good one is About Beads. Both have options for retail ordering by customers. I have ordered from About Beads and received good service, but that was a few years ago so I don't know if the services is any better or worse, or the same. (Actually if you follow the link I've given for the Swarovski crystals on the About Beads site, the page that loads has pictures right there. The Capri Blue and Crystal ones have the 'regular' colour and the AB finish right next to each other, and you can see the difference.) I hope you manage to track down the crystals you are looking for - they will make a difference to the finished appearance of the pieces you are wanting to stitch! Posts: 1778 05/30/08 11:24 AM Chatelaine Enabler Exceptionale	I highly recommend ordering the beadpacks (and other supplies) from European Cross Stitch. The cost is less than kitting on your own.
